In fact, they have an idiom that incorporates the yummy snack. What do you think it means? “You’re selling donuts.”

It may sound fun, but, in fact, it means something unsettling. It means, “You’re telling lies.”

What a disturbing thought that something so sweet could become something destructive, but that is exactly what happened to the people of Romania for many years under tyrannical communist rule.

Like the empty hole inside the donut, they were given empty promises of a brighter future and that their government would save them, but the opposite indeed happened.

Under the rule of Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, they lived in fear, freedoms were removed, and people were harmed for worshipping God or speaking out against their leadership.

With the end of communism, Romania began down a different path. Today, most Romanians have better jobs, live in more freedoms, and are able to freely hear the message of Jesus; however, there are still villages dotted along the lush landscape of the Romanian mountains that have isolated and poverty-stricken people groups still waiting to hear the Good News.

Can you imagine still waiting to learn of Jesus and of His plan of salvation for the first time?
